How To Start Your Urban Jungle

Hi My Plant Junkies!!!

Here we are. My very first blog post. I am feeling very fancy and smart writing this piece and I even have my glasses on to play the part. Today I want to talk to you about plants! How ironic 😏 Jokes aside, choosing the right plant to take home can sometimes be very intimidating and frustrating.

There are so many and where do you even begin?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Let’s start from the beginning, shall we?! Next time you go out there into the big green world looking for the perfect plant baby think about the tips below:

The right ENVIRONMENT is key!!!

  1. Assess your space to determine what kind of light conditions you offer. Generally speaking, plants like bright indirect light which means they are placed in a well lit spot but protected from direct sunlight which can burn and damage the leaves. That being said, some are medium-low light tolerant, making them perfect for darker corners or basement suites.

  2. Assess your space for temperature. Generally speaking, plants don’t like cold weather or sudden changes in temperature and some are very sensitive to drafts or very dry stagnant air. I like to keep my temperature around 20 degrees which is comfortable for me and for my plants.

  3. Assess your space for humidity. Generally speaking, indoor tropicals like warm and humid weather (just think how the plants look so lush in Miami and how sweaty you get whenever you visit. Lol 💦). So, if you have a very dry home you will need to be vigilant and mist your plant babies more often. You can even use a humidifier if you would prefer. Keep in mind that the daily use of air conditioning and heater also dries the air and should be taken into consideration when picking a plant.

Now with all this information you will be able to choose a plant better suited for your space. By picking the right plant you are increasing your chances of raising a lush and happy green baby.

Here are some very easy plants for you to start collecting:

  • Snake plant (bright indirect light and tolerate medium-low light)

  • Zz plant (bright indirect light and tolerate medium-low light)

  • Monstera (bright indirect light and tolerate medium light)

Just a few options to get your green thumb ready to party. Thank you for being here and have a plantastic day EMPOWERED by PLANTS.

Love and light.

Xoxo, Izabela
